About this test
A Complete Blood Count measures the different cells in your blood: red blood cells (which carry oxygen), white blood cells (which fight infection) and platelets (which help blood to clot). It also reports haemoglobin and related values. It is one of the most commonly requested blood tests.
Why it is done
- To check for anaemia (low haemoglobin).
- To look for signs of infection or inflammation.
- To check platelet count, for example during fever or before a procedure.
- As part of a routine health check or to follow a known condition.
